Black Stars striker Yahaya Mohammed, believes head coach Charles Kwabla (CK) Akonnor will secure 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification for Ghana despite rough start in the qualifiers.
Ghana are on 3 points in Group G after two games. A narrow win over Ethiopia in Cape Coast followed by a defeat to group leaders South Africa who are on 4 points.
Many Ghanaians are calling for CK’s head after the loss to Bafana Bafana, saying the coach’s tactical ineptitude was evident in the two games, which makes him unfit for the job.
However, Yahaya has empathically said Ghana will qualify for the World’s biggest international tournament and will be disappointed if Akonnor is axed.
“For me I will be disappointed because so far he’s not been to any major tournament. He has qualified us to the AFCON, road to World Cup he is on course. We have four matches to go and we will qualify. CK will take us to the World Cup so they should give him the benefit of the doubt.” He said in audio aired on Angel FM Kumasi
The Aduana Stars talisman continued that the team’s recent poor performance is as a result of some issues-didn’t specify whether internal or external and would have voiced out if he was in helms of affairs.
“But the real problem is not CK and it’s not the playing body, in football some issues can affect play. If I’m supposed to be the Black Stars Coach in this critical moment I will come out on what is worrying me.”
