Ghanaian young sensation Felix Afena-Gyan opened his goal account for the 2021-22 Primavera season with the winning strike in AS Roma’s 1-0 result against Torino on Sunday.
The 18-year-old forward fetched The Giallorossi their second straight win of the season in the 59th minute, connecting Antonio Satriano’s pass into the bottom corner from close range.
After a pulsating goalles first half, the winning goal came in outstanding fashion showcasing a dashing run, perfect placement and finish by a determined boy.
The Sassuolo defence could not pick him as the boy from Wenchi made his way into the goal area, and were helpless as he beat the offside trap and shrugged off their challenge to place a perfect first-time effort beyond the helpless goalkeeper.
It was one of those familiar qualities shown by the fast-rising young lad whose development has been near perfect since joining the AS Roma youth ranks halfway last season.
And he could not have led the show at any better time than with
First Team Coach, Jose Mourinho watching from the stands and picking notes on the future assets of the club.
The win sends AS Roma to the summit of the table with six maximum points with two points more than Inter Milan as they head to AC Milan on Saturday.
Afena Gyan lasted 80 minutes when AS Roma won 4-0 away at Torino on the season’s opening day as was adjudged his side’s best player despite not getting on the scoresheet.
For Afena Gyan, this may be the continuation from where he left off in his first half-season with the club.
He made seven starts in 14 Primavera games last season but still managed to score four goals and provide two assists.
He also scored five goals and recorded one assist in seven games for the U-18 last season.
