Ghana intends to hurriedly name a new head coach in the next 72 hours following the decision to part ways with Charles Kwablan Akonnor on Monday evening.
The Ghana Football Association has named a three (3) Member Committee which is made up of Vice President of the GFA, Mark Addo, Upper East Regional Football Association Chairman, Alhaji Salifu Zida and Dr. Randy Abbey to find a replacement for CK Akonnor in the next 72 hours.
The Executive Council of the GFA decided to sack CK Akonnor after considering the Technical Report from the Head Coach of the Senior National Team and the report from the Black Stars Management Committee from the World Cup qualifiers against Ethiopia and South Africa.
The FA is expected to announce a new Head Coach and Assistant Coaches within the next 72 hours as they set sights on rescuing Ghana’s hopes of securing a place at the 2022 World Cup to be played in Qatar.
Ghana have had a horrendous start to the World Cup qualifiers. The four-time African champions defeated Ethiopia 1-0 at the Cape Coast Stadium in the first qualifier, before losing to South Africa in Johannesburg by a similar scoreline days later.
The Black Stars after 2 games sit in 2nd place in Group G with 3 points. South African are top of the table with 4 points. Ethiopia sit 3rd with 3 points, whiles Zimbabwe sit bottom with a point.
Ghana will return to action next month for the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Zimbabwe in a double tie.
The first game between the two sides will take place in Ghana on Wednesday, October 6 and the second game in Harare on Sunday, October 10.
