Newly appointed Board Chairman of Okwahu United and GFA Executive Committee Member, Samuel Anim Addo who doubled as player manager has explained how supporters of Okwahu United and Kwaebibirem United went to the pitch during a Middle League game between the two traditional clubs at Theatre of Dreams, Dawu in the Eastern Region.
There was a misunderstanding between the supporters of both clubs after Referee Emmanuel Kofi Agbodavi awarded Kwaebibirem United a penalty.
The game continued following Kwaebibirem United’s goal from the penalty spot to equalize to make it 1 – 1 until the referee decided to stop the game because of the attitude of some supporters on the pitch.
According to Mr. Samuel Anim Addo, one of the assistant referees made a report that the fans of Okwahu United were throwing stones to him from the stands.
The referee also made same report after Kwaebibirem United scored that ‘miraculous penalty’ and decided not to continue the game in the second half.
In an interview with Isaac Ganyo Tamakloe of ghanasportspage.com Samuel Anim Addo revealed, “Both fans invaded on the pitch after the referee stopped the game and was leaving the pitch.
“Though some supporters tried to attack the referee but I can’t justify that it was only our supporters or Kwaebibirem United supporters.
“The Kwaebibirem people made an agenda negatively that our supporters went to the pitch after the referee awarded them a penalty but that is not the truth.
“They are just doing that for points. The referee’s character on the pitch shows clearly that what the fans of Kwaebibirem fans were saying is true but it never happened like this.
“After our goal he decided to stop the game because he was saying our supporters were throwing stones to him whiles we have scored. What kind of referee is this?
“Not only our supporters went to the pitch but both teams. They invaded at the time the referee stopped the game and was leaving the pitch.
“People are just using that as if only our supporters went to the pitch.
“Our supporters comported themselves well for Kwaebibirem to score that ‘miraculous penalty’ the referee awarded.
“The game continued until we saw that the referee was heading towards to the Match Commissioner to make a report that some of our supporters were throwing stones to him.
“I wasn’t shocked when he decided to stop the game because he was making same report about our supporters.
“We have sent our petition to the FA. The law must be just”
“Kwaebibirem United were the home side and the law will show because Okwahu was the away side. We have filed a protest so we are waiting for the outcome” he said.
