Former Hearts of Oak captain Esme Mends has advised the Phobians not to persecute Gladson Awako if the player decide not to continue at the club.
Hearts confirmed on Tuesday, September 21 that new boy Awako is facing personal difficulties and thus has been excused to sort himself out.
Contrary to the release, several reports in the media claim the player after joining the team about a month ago from Great Olympics is now unwilling to continue on the account of spiritual issues.
Therefore, Mends says Hearts of Oak should be accepted and terminate Awako’s contract if he decides not to play.
“It seems personal so you can’t defend or attack Gladson(Awako). It is a personal issue. He collected money and signed and perhaps whatever he is saying is true so I can’t comment on that, it is his issue. Let’s respect his decision, let’s move on.” Mends told GLC radio in China
“Players come and go and we all did our bit. Charles Taylor did his bit, Don Bortey also came in so if Gladson somewhere along the line feels he is not okay then it’s okay, it’s fine. We should understand him and not take it personally and pick on him. We should respect his decision and wish him well and move on.” He added
Meanwhile, Gladson Awako is yet to make his official debut for Hearts of Oak.
