The ex-Hearts of Oak player says the Phobians are in good shape to eliminate last season semi-finalist Wydad Athletic Club (WAC) from the CAF Champions League group stage play-offs.
Kofi Abanga speaking to ghanasportspage.com said Hearts of Oak are on top form and won’t come as a surprise if the Rainbow team are able to knock out the two times competition champions when they go head-to-head next month.
Hearts defeat CI Kamsar 2-0 in the preliminary round to advance to the next stage.
Hence, the one time competition winner, will host the Moroccans in Accra for the first leg of the tie on October 17, before the second leg on October 23/24 in Casablanca.
“From my position, I will certainly say we will qualify because we are all praying that Hearts of Oak can get to the next stage.
“Looking at the current Hearts of Oak squad, Hearts is capable of eliminating WAC. Because in the previous tie (against Kamsar) the boys did very well and played very good game.
So I won’t be surprised if Hearts eliminate WAC because the players are in a superb form.” Abanga said
He, however, advised the Ghana Premier League champions on how to treat games in the CAF’s elite inter club competition.
“It is a different ball game all together. It’s different from playing in the domestic league so the players should be aware that it going to be tough.
Also, the opponents are not familiar so it requires extra extra work in the Champions League either than that if you treat it like playing the (domestic) league then you are going to lose.” He added
