Young forward Felix Afena-Gyan struck twice, extending his goal tally this season, as AS Roma beat Hellas Verona 2-0 in the Primavera.
The three points at home at the Stadio Tre Fontane
on Sunday was Alberto de Rossi’s Giallorossi third straight win in four games, following an opening day draw.
The win also put the side a point clear at the top of the table with 10 points followed by Genoa with nine, ahead of their next game away at Pescara.
There was no doubt about Afena-Gyan’s threat in front of goal going into the game, and he lived up to the mark as he drew first blood on the stroke of half-time.
Afena-Gyan timed his run and escaped the offside lines perfectly as he raced into the six-yard box to slide home Joel Persson’s low cross a minute into stoppage time.
His second, which came after 12 minutes, was even more spectacular.
A quick restart from goalkeeper Davide Antonio in the 58th minute, saw a long kick being stretched to Joel Persson, who put the ball in the 18-year old young Ghanaian forward’s way with a header.
He dodged a defender who tried to shove him off his tracks to hook up with the ball and lobbed it over the goalkeeper into the far post.
Afena-Gyan’s brace took his tally to four goals in as many Primavera games as he continues to build his impressive statistics.
