Alfred Duncan was in action for Fiorentina earlier today against Napoli despite reports that he has pulled out of Ghana’s squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Zimbabwe.
The Fiorentina midfielder is one of thirty-two players handed call-up by newly appointed head coach of the Black Stars, Milovan Rajevac for the doubleheader.
Few days ago, reports emerged in the local media that Duncan has contacted the Serbian gaffer to inform him that he will not be able to honor the call-up due to an injury.
The reports further indicated that Edmund Addo, who’s currently making waves with Moldovan side Sheriff Tiraspol in the UEFA Champions League has been called up to replace Duncan.
However, Alfred Duncan was in action for Fiorentina earlier today as they lost 2-1 at home to Napoli and lasted 77 minutes in the game before he was replaced by Youssef Maleh.
The situation has left a myriad of football followers bewildered, but it is expected to be made clear in the coming days when all players handed call-ups for the two crucial games report to camp.
Ghana will play Zimbabwe at the Cape Coast Stadium on Saturday, October 9, before traveling to Harare for the reverse fixture on Tuesday, October 9.
The Black Stars after 2 games sit in 2nd place in Group G with 3 points. South Africa are top of the table with 4 points. Ethiopia sit 3rd with 3 points, whiles Zimbabwe sit bottom with a point.
