The Ashanti Regional Directorate of the National Sports Authority (NSA) on Monday, October 25, 2021, began a week-long clean-up exercise at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Kumasi as part of preparations for the new football season.

The clean-up exercise was organized to promote a clean and healthy environment at the stadium as authorities prepare the facility, which has been closed down for renovation in about 20 months for the upcoming football campaign.

As part of NSA’s mandates to offer exceptional services at the famous stadium when it is passed for usage, the exercise, which started on Monday within the stadium and its outskirts saw the staff of the Authority led by the Acting (Ag.) Regional Director, Mr. Emmanuel Kojo Appiah partake in the clean-up exercise.

With the first phase of the renovation near completion, it became necessary for the staff to take this proactive initiative and ready the renewed facility which is expected to be opened for the upcoming 2021/2022 Ghana football season.

The activities essentially involved sweeping the stadium and streets, cleaning of ticket booths, cleaning cobwebs, picking plastics, weeding of bushy areas, dredging gutters with the exercise expected to be carried throughout the week.

Speaking after the exercise on Monday, the Ag. Regional Director, Mr Emmanuel Kojo Appiah who actively participated in the entire exercise revealed that, the clean-up was part of an initiative to achieve one of its target of making the stadium and its environs clean and less filthy.

Mr. Appiah also added himself together with his outfit thought it best to intervene and help tackle the issue of sanitation at the stadium and uphold satisfactory standards before the edifice is officially made accessible for sporting activities.

As part of the work conducted by the general staff, the clean-up exercise brought about socialization and harmony among the staff and an opportunity was presented for the newly recruited staff, NSS personnel and interns to mingle and get to know each other.

Ghana premier league clubs, Kumasi Asante Kotoko and King Faisal as well as lower-tier sides, Asokwa Deportivo and Pacific Heroes are expected to use the stadium as their venue for the 2021/2022 football season.
