Communications Officer for GPL giants Obuasi Ashantigold, Mr. Eric Karikari has disclosed that inconsistency of the their technical bench had a negative effect on the team last season.
Italian manager Roberto Landi started the pre-season with the team but left due to financial issues between the two bodies. After that, Milovan Cirkovic took over the managerial role and started the season very well with the team but resigned due to his health status. After the departure of Cirkovic, French trainer Romain Folz also came for the job but he also left the club earlier and all this affected the team last season. The departure of these three coaches took the team into bad direction that led the team to be on unexpected position at the end of the GPL last season.
Speaking to ghanasportspage.com, Mr. Karikari revealed “We are very much prepared for the season but going back to last season we started well but unfortunately we didn’t have consistency in terms of our technical bench. As you know, Roberto Landi who took us through the pre-season left prior to the start of the season and was replaced by Cirkovic but he also left due to his health status but he started the league very well. Romain Folz also came for the managerial role but he did not stay longer with us. We never had consistency.
“Assessing our games last season we were finding it difficult but coming back to rectify things we were able to reach the finals of the FA Cup and you saw the performance we put on that day. We want to continue with that and working towards that why most of our players have been maintained but we just added few players to fill some of the position we find an errors.
“We know things will go well for us this season.”
Ashantigold ended last season on 9th position on the league table and lost the FA Cup finals to Hearts of Oak.
