It was a tough clash in a Match Day 1 in the just started GPL between the two based Accra teams. The game kicked off exactly 3PM at the ‘Nations Wembley’ Accra Sports Stadium. The title holders Hearts of Oak played as a home side.
The game marks the 19th GPL game for their gaffer, Samuel Boadu after joining from Medeama SC and coach Maxwell Kanadu was also on the bench for the away side.
In the first half of the game, both sides delivered an outstanding performance mixing a lot of chances but both goalkeepers took over, making a series of superlative saves in the first department.
Coming into the second half of the game, Hearts were confidently pushing for a goal but ex-Medeama man Eric Ofori Antwi was bravely denying Kofi Kordzi’s approach.
Having coming flying out of the blocks, Hearts found themselves dominating to the good of the game in the second department.
Hearts of Oak took the game on their shoulders creating a lot of chances but finding it difficult to find the back of the net.
Hearts of Oak made their first substitution for Ansah Botcway to come in for Salim Adams followed by Legon Cities Hamzah Nassiru coming in for Nafiu Suleiman.
Salifu Ibrahim nearly scored for Hearts but the cross bar denied that.
Patrick Razak who scored their consolation goal against WAC last week came in for Isaac Mensah and Afriyie Barnieh going out for Enoch Asubonteng.
Legon Cities were solid at their defense whiles Hearts were widely attacking for a goal.
Legon Cities made three straight substitution within the last minutes of the game to strengthen their playing pattern.
The game was stopped for two minutes due to misunderstanding between the technical bench of Hearts and the fourth official but it was back into proceedings again after peacefully resolving that. Legon Cities were delightful to watch at the dying minutes of the game which nearly resulted in a goal.
The clash ended with 0-0 scoreline at the end of the 90minutes plus the additional 6minutes. Eric Ofori Antwi was named as the MOTM in his debut game for Legon Cities after keeping a clean sheet.
In Match Day 2, Hearts of Oak will travel to play WAFA at Sogakope with Legon Cities welcoming GPL returnees Real Tamale United at the Accra Sports Stadium.
