For lovers of scientific soccer and students of tactical football, something must be cooking which will take all the attention and time to learn or break it into the level of understanding of lots of football fans.
Asante Kotoko coach Prosper Ogum Nartey has revealed that he has introduced a game model in Asante Kotoko, which did hitherto not exist. The Kotoko coach who won his first competitive match against Dreams FC is of the view that should his players perfect the new game model introduced, it will be very difficult for clubs to break down the club in matches.
Kotoko won 3-1 against Dreams in the Ghana Premier League opener at the Accra Sports Stadium, using 7 minutes to score three classic goals which sent soccer pundits discussing Kotoko’s comeback and the approach used to approach the game. The coach hinted at the answer with an emphatic answer after the match in match.
” Kotoko came to the match with a plan and never really changed it until there was time to alter it. We came with a plan and never really changed it. We are developing a game model in Kotoko, hitherto it was not available, I’m bringing it now. It’s simply that players should think and behave exactly how their coach thinks and believe on the pitch” explained Prosper.
Asked to explain how this works and what players must do exactly , he explained further
” Players must have possession with purpose and circulate the ball well. The game model at Kotoko now demands that players must rotate on the field and move intelligently on the field “.
How Kotoko crawled back from the jaws of defeat and hit three goals within minutes of each other in sheer brilliance gives further credence to Ogum’s game model being developed at Kotoko and the weeks ahead will be interesting as other coaches are expected to do their best and tear into the Kotoko team. The coach believes it will take time to fully implement the model but is very hopeful it will work even in difficult times.
