Ex-GFA boss and a board member of Accra Hearts Oak of Dr. Nyaho Tamakloe has explained why Black Stars general captain Asamoah Gyan and Black Queens captain Elizabeth Addo may not be part of the national team again.
Asamoah Gyan 35, has been with the Black Stars for over two decades and has scored 51 goals in 109 appearances for the Black Stars since 2003 making him the leading top scorer for the Ghana senior men’s team.
He is the top African goalscorer in the history of the World Cup with 6 goals. The captaincy position of the Black Stars was taken from ‘Baby Jet’ to Andre Ayew before the 2019 AFCON in Egypt which led to his resignation from the Black Stars but was forced to retract his resignation and join the team again for the AFCON.
Gyan has not been with the team after the AFCON.
The Black Queens captain, Elizabeth Addo who turned 28years this year has also been capped in 25 games for the Black Stars with 10 goals since joining the team in 2012. She was dropped from the squad before the Aisha Buhari Cup in Nigeria and was not with them in both legs of the African Women’s Championship qualifiers against Nigeria.
Per the views of some football followers the Ghana football is not treating these two captains well and being unfair to them.
According to the ex-GFA gaffer, football is a generational game in existence that people play in a particular period and then they have to leave.
“Football is a generational game to the extent that people play in a particular period and then they have to leave. Is the game also that each plays an important role.
“When you are getting older then you should know that you can’t compete with the younger ones. Asamoah Gyan came into Black Stars as a young boy when I was the GFA boss and he has played for almost two decades now. He’s done very well and he realizes that if time is getting out now then no one will advise him. He should advise himself that he is out of the game as simple as that.” he told Ghanasportspage.com.
Gyan’s current situation with Legon Cities is undefined and there is a rumor of contract termination with the GPL giants.
Elizabeth Addo is also playing active football with Djurgårdens IF in Sweden and looks further for a return to the national team.
