Asante Kotoko were excited to return back to their fortress ‘Babayara Sports Stadium’ as they host Bechem United in Match Day 2 encounter.
The stadium was closed down for 90 weeks for a renovation to take place which saw the Porcupines playing their home games at the Accra Sports Stadium and later moved to Obuasi Len Clay Stadium. The stadium also serves Alhaji Grusah’s King Faisal as their home ground which caused them playing their home matches at Techiman Ameyaw Park.
The fans of Kotoko were expecting the reds to open the renovated stadium with a win over Bechem United as they secured late goals from Abdul Ganiyu and Samuel Boateng.
Bechem United took a first kick of the game with a pressure on Kotoko but Razak Abalora’s full marks was tough to defend his side in the goal post.
Asmah appears injured as he goes off the bench for Imoro in the 35th minute as Kotoko’s first substitution.
The Porcupines controlled the game but they were not lucky in front of goal before the first half.
Mfegui Rodrigues gets his debut as he replaces Fabio Gama on the 78th minute.
Bechem United were given Kotoko a tough competition until the late lead after a scintillating move from the lads pouncing on the visitors as Ganiyu calmly converted the ball in the net on the 83rd minute from a spot kick before Samuel Boateng’s late winner at the latter part of the game.
The fourth whistle was blown and the day was capped with another late glamour after Isaac Oppong’s end to end action to involve in the two goals.
Kotoko have come on top of the table with six points out of two games and will travel to play the newbies Bibiani Gold Stars at the Duns Park whilst Bechem United host Elmina Sharks in Week 3. Bechem United are disappointed after the late defeat. They picked their first three points of the season in a season opener after 4-0 victory over Medeama SC.
