Member of the 1995 FIFA U17 World Cup champions, Awudu Issaka has lamented on how Ghana’s grassroot football has been abandoned.
Football is a hereditary game that moves from generation to generation. Apart from professional football, grassroots football is a game that seeks to develop football from the local level. Grassroots football players are mostly amateurs as they play for the love of the game. The backbone of the game stands through the support of local football fans, volunteers, parents of players, sponsors and the players themselves. It’s also known as the foundation of every player to obtain the skills in the game.
According to the ex-Ghana midfielder, investing in our grassroot football will help produce good and quality players into our national teams.
“The football has changed from how it was. We don’t play with a big names again because every nation is investing to develop grassroot football whiles we are still finding it difficult in Ghana but it helps.” Awudu Issaka told Richmond K Entsie on Accra-based Original FM.

Awudu Issaka was part of the Ghana U17 national team to win the U17 World Championship in 1995 held in Ecuador.
