World’s football governing body, the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) has allegedly begun an investigation over Ghana’s penalty against South Africa on Sunday in the ongoing FIFA World Cup qualifiers after the South Africa Football Federation (SAFA) filed a complaint against the Senegalese referee, Ndiaye Maquette and his other assistants.
The Black Stars’ narrow win enabled them to reach the African World Cup play-offs by the narrowest of margins, ousting South Africa at the top of the group on goals scored.
SAFA made the “formal complaint” on Monday about “questionable decisions” made by the match officials in Sunday’s 1-0 defeat by Ghana.
FIFA has confirmed to start the investigation over the incident as reported earlier this afternoon.
“FIFA has received a complaint from SAFA in relation to this matter.
“Please understand we cannot comment further at this stage,” FIFA said on Tuesday in response to a media query over the status of the complaint by SAFA.
South Africa should have avoided lose to penetrate but the 33rd minute goal that was calmly converted by Al Sadd skipper following the incident that saw Daniel Amartey pulled down in the penalty box.
Despite having the same points of 13 with Ghana, South Africa are not eligible to play in the playoffs due to goal difference with Ghana.
