Ghanasportspage.com can confirm that struggling Premiership side Medeama have asked assistant coach Umar Abdul Rabi to lead them into their next league match this weekend against Karela United. This comes in the wake of the Tarkwa based club’s parting of ways with head coach Ignatius Osei-Fosu following an abysmal performance in the ongoing league.
Ignatius replaced Yaw Preko before the pre-season after Preko had also earlier replaced the departed Samuel Boadu, who joined Hearts and triggered a feud between the two sides. Medeama managed to have a very good pre-season in Kumasi but the beginning of the season began a dark period for them, going three matches without winning any.
CEO James Essilefie reportedly left his position is still being pleaded upon to rescind his decision while the technical director Seth Ablade was also sacked before the head coach Ignatius finally suffered a dagger push today after the club found itself at the 14th position. He spent only three months at the job following his movement from Eleven Wonders.
Umar Rabi, ghanasportspage understands has been told by Moses Parker and his management “to act as the head coach and take temporal charge of the team, pending an appointment of a new coach”.
This website is informed that Medeama is looking at a foreigner but is also asking about Ibrahim Tanko, David Duncan, and other local coaches. But Abdul Umar is also seen as a possible replacement should he do well In the next two matches. He rejoined Medeama only a week ago as the assistant coach following ten years of service with Red Bull Academy and Right to Dream Academy. He was with Medeama years ago and part of the technical team which qualified the club to the second division
