AshantiGold winger, Mathew Agama has thrown a strong warning to the reigning champions Accra Hearts of Oak ahead of their epic encounter on Sunday at the Obuasi Len Clay Sports Stadium.
This will be the 16th game between the two GPL giants since 2012 in all competitions with Hearts leading with 6 wins while AshantiGold have won 4 and 5 draws.
Hearts of Oak never picked three maximum points against AshantiGold in last season’s Ghana Premier League. They drew 2-2 in the first league and AshantiGold picked a narrow win over the Phobians in the second league in March earlier this year.
AshantiGold were left behind after drawing 0-0 in the 2020/21 MTN FA Cup Finals to Hearts of Oak in 8-7 scoreline on penalty shout-out.
As a revenge, Agama who joined the Miners last season has boldly pontificated how ready they are ahead of the clash against Accra Hearts of Oak and also to pin them into the bottom side of the table.
Speaking to Isaac Ganyo Tamakloe of ghanasportspage.com, Agama stated, “This week we have done hundred percent work out with our new coach [Thomas Duah], he came yesterday and we worked together as a team so Hearts of Oak we know is a very big team and since we started the league last season whenever we meet them is a tough match. I think this week we are already to give out hundred percent job.
Talking about pinning Hearts of Oak to the bottom side of the league he also stated, “Sure, we will beat them because our position now is very bad, we don’t deserve to be there as you know AshantiGold is a big club so we deserve to be on top.
“As you know we personally supposed to give hundred percent to the staff and also the supporters. We didn’t give hundred percent last season. Our position on the table last season was very bad. We deserve more and we shall really win that very match.”
AshantiGold are hoping to rectify things after sacking their gaffer Ernest Thompson following the 2-0 defeat to their regional rivals King Faisal last weekend.
Hearts of Oak are also yet to win a game this season after drawing all their opening three games.
