It’s all over at the 30th June Sports Stadium, Cairo-Egypt as Mamelodi Sundowns have made a history to win the maiden edition of the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League after beating a Ghanaian side Hasacass Ladies by 2goals to none.
Five years after seeing Sundowns men’s team winning the CAF Champions League for the first time, the ladies have created another history to be the first ever team to go with the greatest achievement of the competition.
Prior to the game, the hope of the South African’s was to beat the Ghanaians following the controversial penalty against their senior national soccer team, Bafana Bafana over the weekend.
Chueni Morifi and Adinfiwe Mgcoyi wrote their names on the score sheet in the first ever finals of the tournament to guide their team for glory.
After Hasacass Ladies realizing they were left off the hook on the last ten minutes of the game, they stepped up looking for a response but it was too late and also Sundowns goalstopper made a world class save to deny their opponent a consolation.
Four clean sheets, and penalty shootout win took the Sundowns to the finals and they were capable of repeating same performance in the finals while the Hasacass Ladies also won three drawn one but conceded 3 goals to reach the finals before conceding 2 goals today.
Despite a defeat, Hasacass Ladies will remain in the history book of this tournament for reaching the finals in the maiden edition of the tournament.
