Global football star Samuel Eto’o Fils, has been elected president of the Cameroon Football Federation. This was during FECAFOOT’s Elective General Assembly, that took place on Saturday, at the Monte Febe Hotel in Yaoundé.
Before the start of the elections, other candidates had pulled out from the race, leaving incumbent mbombo Njoya and Samuel Eto’o as the front runners.
Maboang Kessack, Justin Tagouh and Crépin Nyamsi, gave their support to the former FC Barcelona forward, while Jules Denis Onana and Zacharie Wanja, rallied behind Seidou Mbombo Njoya.
Out of the 76 delegates who were supposed to vote in the elections, two delegates failed to show up. In the final vote count, Samuel Eto’o got 43 votes, while incumbent Mbombo Njoya could only get 31 delegates on his side.
Born on March 10, 1981, 40_year_old Samuel Eto’o represented 14 clubs in his professional career, and is also the top scorer in the history of the Cameroon National Team. He now takes over the leadership of one of the biggest FA’s in the African continent.
Eto’o will head Cameroon’s delegation at the 2021 African Nations Cup, to be played in Cameroon as from January to February 2022.
