Week 8 of the Ghana Premier League was nothing short of surprises as defending champions Hearts of Oak beat Elmina Sharks to pick first win of the season after five games.
The Rainbow Boys currently sit at the 16th position on the log standings with 6 points.
Gladson Awako had a star performance to score a historical goal in his debut game for the Phoobians at the 72nd minute.
Hearts of Oak midfielder Salifu Ibrahim and Elmina Sharks captain Suraj Ibrahim was sent off the game for unlawful action.
Kumasi Asante Kotoko shared the spoil with RTU at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium with 1-1 result. Abdul Ganiu missed a penalty but Kotoko exerted a lot of energy to take the lead through France Etouga before the equalizer from David Abagna.
Meanwhile King Faisal continued their impressive performance to this year’s league by drawing 0-0 against Accra Lions in Sogakope to share top spot with Aduana Stars.
Aduana Stars also picked a vital win in Obuasi over AshantiGold courtesy a magical strike from Sam Adams.
Great Olympics bounce back to the winning way with 2-0 victory in an early kick off at Sogakope Red Bull Arena against ‘The Hunters’ Bibiani Gold Stars.
James Akaminko and Maxwell Abbey Quaye were the winners of the day for the home side.
Elsewhere, AshantiGold were battered in their own backyard at the Len Clay Sports Stadium by Dormaa-based Aduana Stars. The home side were hoping to pick up maximum points to boost their points but it wasn’t to be as Sam Adams only goal condemned their expectations. This loss leaves them at 9th position with 11 points whiles Aduana tops with 17 points.
Tarkwa based Medeama continued their home dominance as they beat Legon Cities by a goal to nil through Joseph Tetteh Zutah.
On other hand, Fatawu Issahaku scored his sixth goal of the season with Ali Huzaif who grabbed brace helped Dreams FC to belabor Karela United by 3-1 scoreline in Dewu. The consolation was scored by Umar Basiru.
In Berekum, WAFA brought down back to earth by Berekum Chelsea, who defeated them 2-0. Kofi Owusu shined with brace to hand the home side the victory after 0-0 draw with Legon Cities last week whiles Bechem United secured a lone goal victory at home over Eleven Wonders with a superb strike from Augustine Okrah.
The Ghana Premier League continues on Wednesday with week 9 next weekend.
