Following the announcement of the temporary closure of the Accra sports stadium to sporting activities by the National Sports Authority (NSA) on December 7, Ghana Premier League (GPL) giants Accra Hearts of Oak have been left with no option than to relocate their home matches, and the Phobians have settled on the Central Region to be their interim home.
The current holders of the league title have confirmed the Cape Coast sports stadium as their new home grounds for the time being, as their usual home, the Accra sports stadium remains closed to sporting activities.
“We host newly promoted side, Accra Lions this Sunday at the Cape Coast Stadium”, Hearts of Oak announced via their social media account on Thursday.
Hearts of Oak are scheduled to face Accra Lions, debutants of the top flight league on Sunday, December 19 in week 9 of the ongoing GPL season, and the Phobians have chosen the 15, 000 capacity Cape Coast sports stadium for the match. The 20-time champions of the league are expected to play their home matches there till January 2022, when the Accra sports stadium would be reopened to football matches.
The National Sports Authority (NSA) announced the temporary closure of the Accra Sports Stadium to football activities effective December 13th, 2021.
A statement signed by Prof. Peter Twumasi –Director General of the NSA said the stadium is closed for both football and athletics purposes with effect from Monday, December 13, to Sunday, 26 December 2021.
