The GPL Week 9 liner between two Accra based top flights Hearts of Oak and newly promoted side Accra Lions was held today (6:00PM GMT) at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium due to the ongoing renovation of the Accra Sports Stadium.
The title holders, Hearts of Oak played as the home side and fought hard to secure a second win of the league following Gladson Awako’s 1-0 victory over Elmina Sharks after five games winless round.
Accra Lions held with the title holders in the first half but Kofi Kordzi and 2021 SWAG Awards home-based Footballer Of The Year, Daniel Afriyie Barnieh lured the victory for the Phoobians.
Kordzi connected Hearts first goal after Obeng Jnr delivered a cross into the box whiles Barnieh doubled the lead to drive off the errors he made.
Hearts of Oak have finally escaped the relegation zone to the 12th position with 9points whiles the lads have dropped to the 16th position with 8 points.
The next fixtures of the GPL will see the Rainbows locking horns against Dreams FC whiles the Lions will host RTU in Sogakope.
In three days later, Hearts of Oak and Accra Lions will compete in the MTN FA Cup Round of 64.
