Spokesperson of Kumasi Asante Kotoko NCC, Mr. Osei Owusu has explained why the club’s captain Abdul Ganiu has been omitted from the Black Stars provisional squad released by Coach Milovan ahead of the 33rd edition of the AFCON.
Many people especially Kotoko fans were expecting their captain will make it alongside the other local players but the star defender was evicted from the squad amid his role during the AFCON and the World Cup qualifiers.
The PRO of the club also applauded the Serbian trainer for not extending an invitation to any Kotoko player ahead of the upcoming tournament.
“I think the technical team of the Black Stars has done the right thing by not calling any Kotoko player because their absence especially Abdul Ganiu and Razak Abalora would have been a total distraction to our team. Our coach currently is running a rotational policy with our defense he’s facing difficulties with his selection for the central pair, and if we were to miss Ganiu, the case could have been disastrous for us.
“Again, the truth must be told, the performances of Ganui and Razak have not been encouraging of late. They have been making some unnecessary mistakes that have been costly to the team. Honestly, I think their performance does not merit a Black Stars call-up. We should just wish the other local players who were invited the best of luck.” Mr. Owusu told. Akoma Fm.
Razak Abalora last played for the team during a friendly game against Morocco in a 1-0 defeat but Ganiu was invited for Ghana’s squad against South Africa in their last World Cup qualifiers group stage game in Cape Coast.
