Richard Boadu, popularly called Agadas by football fans swore Heaven and Earth to play for Kotoko while with Medeama and made that dream come true. He was the last Medeama player to score against Kotoko in that painful 1-0 victory at the Obuasi Len Clay Sports Stadium. His desire to don the red jersey increased after Kotoko came knocking, culminating in him finally signing for the Fabulous club.
But he could not easily break into the Kotoko team initially and started from the bench in the first league match against Dreams but worked hard to make the starting line up a birthright later, only missing matches through suspensions.
Agadas is worried about being tagged a “dirty player ” as he seems to be overly physical and continues to attract cards. He has so far on two occasions missed matches due to suspensions, something he is not proud of and has expressed the hope it will stop.
“I get worried sometimes when we allow opponents to get to us and worry us with the ball so I try to stop them. I also try to talk to my players which are misinterpreted by some referees as talking back to them. I am worried about attracting cards and trying to stop “, reveals the stalwart midfielder who is naturally well built and very physically when with the ball and also tackling opponents.
Meanwhile, Kotoko ex-player Sarfo Gyamfi believes some referees are not fair to the player as they give him cards which should not be the case. He insists the physical nature of the player deceives some referees to caution him unnecessarily during matches and has also advised the player to try and work on his communication during matches as he sometimes attracts cards due to verbally abusing referees.
The player explains he normally talks during matches and it comes naturally as he communicates with his colleagues or sometimes pricks himself on certain fouls or when they miss chances, which some referees interpreted as challenging them on decisions. Sarfo insists the player will come good and that referees should not be that tough on such players as it’s natural.
Agadas attracted a red card at Ainyinase and missed matches afterward while the accumulation of yellow cards also stopped him from playing in the match against Legon Cities two weeks ago.
