Accra Hearts of Oak defender James Sewornu spoken to back his captain Fatawu Mohammed on the need for the team to raise the standard of their play at the Accra sports stadium during their home matches, regardless of any inconveniences available.
Upon their return from a brief stay at the Cape Coast sports stadium to the Accra sports stadium where they play their home matches, Accra Hearts of Oak failed to win their Ghana Premier league (GPL) match against Bechem United last Sunday.
The Phobians were left disappointed after failing to even created decent chances in the game against the Hunters. Coach Samuel Boadu admitted that the team played badly on the day, compared to how they performed against Accra Lions and Berekum Chelsea in the the FA Cup and the GPL respectively, when they beat both teams at the Cape Coast sports stadium.
Speaking after the game on Sunday, Hearts of Oak captain Fatawu Mohammed claimed the grass on the pitch was a little heavy which affected the speed at the which the ball traveled. Despite not blaming the condition entirely for the goalless scoreline against Bechem United, Fatawu mentioned that the nature of the pitch did affect some of the new players of Hearts of Oak, who were playing on the pitch for the first time.
He however warned his teammates that they have no excuses for dropping points at home, and urged them to raise their performance as a team to return to winning ways. His caution seems to have sunk in well into the ears of his teammates as James Sewornu has come out to affirm Fatawu’s words.
Sewornu has taken to social media to back his captain on the situation, saying, the players have got no excuse than to deliver.
“We learn from our mistakes and urge on.. we’ve no excuses.. we’ll surely bounce back”, the 22-year of defender wrote on twitter.
Hearts of Oak will travel to the Western Region to face Bibiani Gold Stars over the coming weekend, then move to Tarkwa to face Medeama Sporting club on Wednesday January 12 for an outstanding league match. Their next home match at the Accra sports stadium will be against Eleven Wonders.
