The 33rd edition of the African Cup of Nations kicked off late afternoon today at the Olembe Sports Stadium in the capital city of Cameroon, Yaounde with an opening liner between 2017 champions, Cameroon and West African side Burkina Faso in Group A.
The game was kicked off exactly 4:00PM (16:00 GMT) after the opening ceremony.
Burkinabè international, Gustavo Sangare recorded the first goal of the tournament after connecting a crossing from Aston Villa midfielder Bertrand Traore to give Burkina Faso the lead at the 24th minute.
The Indomitable Lions fought until they were back into the game with a leveller from their captain, Vincent Aboubakar following a penalty decision by Algerian referee, Mustapha Ghorbal after Andre Zambo Anguissa was brought down by Bertrand Traore during the 40th minute.
The host nation kept on mounting the pressure on the Stallions and had the second goal by captain Vincent Aboubakar during the additional 3minutes of the first half.
Three yellow cards were recorded in the book of referee Mustapha Ghorbal.
The next Group A game kicks off today 7:00PM (19:00 GMT) between Ethiopia and Cape Verde at the Olembe Sports Stadium.
