Asante Kotoko put regional neighbours Ashanti Gold Sporting club to the sword in the 2021/2022 Asante derby in Kumasi after beating them by emphatic 3-1 scoreline, and head coach Prosper Narteh is over the moon for the feat.
The Porcupine Warriors made it four wins out of four games on the bounce in the Ghana Premier League with victory over the Miners on Sunday afternoon at the Baba Yara sports stadium. Cameroonin striker Frank Etouga Mbella scored his first hatrick for Asante Kotoko, his first in the GPL to enable his side maintain the top spot on league table.
Speaking to the media after the game, Asante Kotoko head coach Prosper Narteh expressed his delight, describing the magnitude of the victory over their neighbours as “fantastic”.
“It was good. I think so far for the first time in Baba Yara [stadium] we were able to find our rhythm, we were able to circulate the ball very well, confidently and if you look at the chances that we created we could have scored more”, Ogun told the media.
On the his players, Ogun heaped praises on them for keeping their composure in front of their numerous fans for the first time this season.
“I’m happy that for the first time they were very calm on the ball, they were very calm without the ball and were able to exploit the spaces that we created. Ashgold is a big team which we all know and going up by 3 goals to 1 is fantastic. I’m happy for the boys”, he expressed.
After match day 12 of the ongoing league season, Asante Kotoko are still sitting at teh summit of the league table with 26 points out of 11 games, followed closely by Aduana Stars who are trailing by 3 points.
