The Atlas Lions of Morocco has secured a place in the round 16 of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations. The North African giants and the one time champions of the AFCON defeated Comoros 2-0 in Group C second group game late afternoon today to become first team to advance in Group C with a game in hand.
Goals from Standard Liege midfielder Selim Amallah and AZ Alkmaar forward Zakaria Aboukhlal headlined the game to help the Atlas Lions to advance with six points.
The Moroccans had a penalty at the 83rd minute to extend the tally but Youssef En-Nesyri’s kick was denied by goalkeepeer Salim Ben Boina.
The debutants are without a point on the table but will try their best to record first victory in their first ever AFCON against Ghana on Tuesday. Morocco will also play Gabon who defeated Comoros in the opener simultaneously on same day.
