The Africa Cup of Nations debutants Comoros have expressed a striking confidence in themselves to beat Ghana as the two sides face off in the last group match of Group C in the ongoing Cup of Nations in Cameroon on Tuesday.
The Black Stars will take on “The Coelacanths” on Tuesday at the Stade Omnisport Roumbe Adjia in a make or break Group C encounter, as anything short of a convincing win will see Ghana park out of the tournament at the group stages for the fifth time in their history of 23 times appearances in the continent’s flagship tournament.
Ghana’s opponents, Comoros are in the tournament for the first time in their history, and have so far been given the baptism of fire by Gabon and Morocco, who beat them by 1-0 and 2-0 respectively in their first two matches in Group C.
The Coelacanths are still searching for their first ever goal in their AFCON campaign history, and they are confident that that goal will be achieved against Ghana on Tuesday. In an exclusive interview with ghanasportspage.com, General Secretary of the Comoros Football Federation, Stephane Aboutoihi revealed the reason why Comoros will go all miles to defeat Ghana come Tuesday, January 18.
“It’s the first time Comoros has taken our team to Africa Nations Cup, so we are very proud to play in this tournament, but we lost two matches so we have a very big important match against Ghana we hope if we win against Ghana we go to the finals”, Aboutoihi revealed.
The Comoros FA official is optimistic that beating Ghana on Tuesday will ginger his side all the way to the final of the tournament. He further stated that Comoros wants to make history against the Black Stars, scoring their first goal and possibly picking their first win in the tournament.
“We hope to win against Ghana, it’s important for us in this tournament. It’s so important in this tournament to have one match we can win, it’s important for history, it’s important to have one goal so all players and the staff and technical are in contemplating to win [at least] one match in this tournament”, he revealed.
