The Teranga Lions of Senegal have finished first in Group B after the goalless draw with underdogs Malawi but they are through to the next stage of the competition.
The two sides played out a hard-fought with many football lovers expecting the 2019 finalist to beat the minnows.
Sadio Mane and Habib Diallo went close and nearly had a goal for Senegal while Malawi had the award of a penalty overturned following a video assistant referee review.
Senegal scored only one goal out of their three games in group B but they are through to the next stage with five points after topping the group. The won their first game and drew the last two.
Sadio Mane’s 79th-minute winner against Zimbabwe in their opener is the only goal scored by the last edition’s finalist.
Malawi tired as the game wore on but could yet find themselves in the knock-out stages for the first time in their history, having reached the Nations Cup for the third time.
Elsewhere, Guinea went down in a 2-1 defeat to Zimbabwe but with four points Naby Keta’s Guinea are through to round 16 whiles Zimbabwe is out of the competition with just three points.
