Home-based Black Stars coach Annor Walker has named a shortlist of three local coaches he believes are much more capable of filling the vacant Ghana senior national team coaching position, saying the three men put together will work to perfection and take Ghana to greater heights.
The Black Stars coaching job became vacant following the decision of the Ghana Football Association to fire coach Milovan Rajevac who supervised over what turned out to be Ghana’s worst campaign at the Africa Cup of Nations at the 2021 AFCON tournament in Cameroon. Ghana failed to advance from the group (which comprised of Morocco, Gabon, debutants Comoros and Ghana) after drawing with Gabon and losing to Morocco and Comoros.
According to the list of Walker, former Ghana international Ibrahim Tanko should be appointed as the head coach, and be assisted by former Ghana captain and former coach James Kwasi Appiah along with he Walker himself.
“Honestly, left to me I see that [Ibrahim] Tanko is there. He plied his trade in Germany, he holds UEFA Licence B [coaching Certificate) too. If he comes [as the head] and two of us join him, I think we can do the job”, Annor Walker told ghanasportspage.com in an exclusive interview.
Asked which two other local coaches will make his list, he pointed to former James Kwasi Appiah and extended the number to four to include current Ghana Premier League side Asante Kotoko head coach, Prosper Narteh Ogum.
“For me like I think if Kwasi Appiah is added like it will help, as well as Prosper Narteh Ogun”, he added.
Kwasi Appiah has handled the Black Stars on two different times as head coach, and he left the job after the expiration of his contract with GFA before the appointment of CK Akonnor who was subsequently fired and replaced by the recently fired Milovan Rajevac.
