Both the fee paid for Özil as well as the contract duration were undisclosed, but it was believed to be around £42.5 million (€50 million) for a five-year deal. The transfer made him the most expensive German football player of all time.
Mesut Ozil – who with Arsenal since joining from Real Madrid for a then-record club fee of £42.4million ($60million, 48.2million euros) in 2013 – signed a three-and-a-half year contract and was earning around £350,000 a week during his days in the Premiership.
With the departure of Pierre Aubameyang who was earning £350k+, the highest earner at Arsenal is now Thomas Partey at £200K a week.
On January 31st, 2022, Aubameyang left the English club to join Spanish giants Barcelona after agreeing sensational free transfer from the Gunners.
Aubameyang, who was stripped of the Arsenal captaincy following a disciplinary breach in December, had 18 months left on his contract and the club but the club has decided to let Gabon striker go.
Thomas Partey will now enjoy as the highest paid player at the Gunners surpassing Alexander Lacazette who earns £182, 063 a week.
