Ex-Inter Milan, AC Milan skipper, Sulley Muntari has revealed the inspiration behind his decision to return to the pitch before choosing to join the reigning champions of the GPL, Accra Hearts of Oak.

The former Black Stars midfielder has been in a tight relationship with the rainbow club before joining them on a season long deal.

He used to train with the Phobians whenever he is back in Ghana for holidays.

Muntari, who made his last appearance for the Ghana national team in 2014 started his professional football career with Dansoman-based Liberty Professionals before leaving the shores of Africa to Europe where he marked a great performance to win the UEFA Champions League with Inter Milan.

The 38-year old has publicly revealed how his son is pushed him to return to playing football again, which led to the move to Hearts of Oak after leaving Spanish lower division Albacete in 2019.

Sulley was quizzed on what went into the decision in choosing Hearts and he explained.

“My son…yep…decision to play now is my son but decision to play for Hearts of Oak was easy. I live here in Accra and before when I (come) down for holidays I train with Hearts of Oak. I met Dr. Tamakloe (Hearts of Oak Board Member), the president himself, Togbe Afede and then few of his friends and some of the players too, I met them.

I’ve been watching Hearts for a long time and I know a little bit about the team so it wasn’t hard decision to make move but the push really was my son who asked me to start playing because he want to come to the stadium and watch me playing, and I said okay. Since the friendship with Hearts was there long before it was very easy for me to choose”, he explained.

Muntari is yet to make his Hearts of Oak debut as many expect to see the veteran footballer rolling the carpet in the GPL after two years of absence from professional football.
