Senegal defeated Egypt on penalties to win their maiden Africa Cup of Nations trophy after Sadio Mane netted the winning spot kick to aid his nation beat Egypt 4-2 on penalties after 0-0 draw in 120 minutes of play.
The 29-year old winger, Mane, had his 7th minute penalty saved by Egypt goalkeeper Gabaski to deny Aliou Cissé’s Senegal an early lead in the game. Senegal kept their composure despite the disappointment form the Mane penalty, and dominated the game throughout the first half of the game.
The game ended 0-0 after extra time to push it into penalty shootouts to decide the winner of the 33rd Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
During the penalty kicks, Chelsea’s Edouard Mendy saved Mohanad Lasheen’s kick to dash the hopes of the Pharaohs, giving Mane the opportunity to deliver the winning kick. Mane shrugged off any forms of nervousness from his earlier miss to deliver the last kick which won the The Lions of Teranga their maiden AFCON title after failing to do so in the 2002 and 2019 final.
