The Ghana female U-17 team, the Black Maidens have eased past their Moroccan counterparts in a FIFA International friendly game at the Accra Sports stadium on Saturday.
The Maidens beat Morocco 3-0 in Accra to themselves warmed up for the upcoming African U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers which is scheduled to begin in March 2022.
Coach Baba Nuhu’s side proved too strong for the young Atlas Lionesses as goals from Stella Nyamekye, Georgina Aoyem and Mariam Matiti Iddi respectively proved enough for the Maidens to finish the game with a comfortable 3-0 scoreline.
Young Atlas Lionesses of Morocco came close at the 15th minute into the game with a decent chance at goal only to be denied by Amina Ahamadu. The Ghanaian side responded quickly to the threats from their Moroccan fellows when Stella Nyamekye made good use of thrilling team play pass to fire a short at goal which beat Said Hajr and put Blacak Maidens in front.
Ghana came close to doubling their lead in the 40th minute but the chance turned a missed opportunity as Stella Nyamekye blasted far above the post in a one on one encounter with goalkeeper Said Hajr. The pressure from coach Baba Nuhu’s girls finally paid off when Georgina Aoyem found the back of the net for the second just on the stroke of half time.
Back from the break, Ghana put the game beyond repairs for the Morrocans as a cool tap in by Mariam Matiti Iddi raised the tally to 3-0.
The game ended 3-0 for the Black Maidens.
Since its inception in 2008, Ghana have participated in the six of the World Cup competitions and are looking forward to making for the 7th time, but would have to clear the hurdle of qualifiers to grab the ticket to the tournament proper.
Ghana will take on Senegal in the second round of the qualifiers and coach Baba Nuhu is expected to use these international friendlies to prepare the team ahead of qualifiers which starts next month.
The World Cup will be be hosted by India from 11-30 October, 2022.
