Ghana Premier League (GPL) side Legon Cities head coach, Maxwell Konadu is already looking up to a flying start of the second round of the league which will kick start on the weekend of February 25-28 across the various League Centres.
The Accra based side will once again start the second phase of the season against fellow city outfits Accra Hearts of Oak, the same side they started the 2021/2022 football season against on the week one of the season on the October 31 last year. Ahead of the second round which marks the resumption of the league after 11-day break, coach Maxwell Konadu already has a fair idea of what to do in order to beat the Phobians, win more of other games to finish the season in a respectable position on the league log by the end of the season.
Speaking to reporters of StarTimes media after Legon Cities 1-0 victory over King Faisal in the GPL match week 17 encounter at the Accra sports stadium on Monday, Konadu expressed satisfaction with the current position of Legon Cities on the league log after 17 games into the the league, and already has in mind what to do to grind good results against Accra Hearts of Oak.
“Against Hearts of Oak we need to sit back and reflect over what went wrong in the first round and make sure we approach the game very very seriously. Because we can’t get here and begin to go down again”, he stated.
Prior to their 1-0 win over King Faisal on Monday, Legon Cities had won 2 of their last 5 league matches, drawn 2 and lost one, and coach Maxwell Konadu sees these streak of results to be a much positive one and wants it maintained going into the second round of the league ensure that the Royals finish the season on a good note.
“For the past games we’ve been consistent; draw-win, draw-win, draw-win, draw, so we want to continue like that until we end the season on a good note”, Konadu analysed.
Legon Cities held Accra Hearts of Oak to a goalless draw at the Accra sports stadium in the first round. Currently, the Royals are 12th on the league log with 21 points after 17 matches, while Hearts of Oak, who have struggled throughout the first round of the league, also lie 8th on the league log with 24 points after 16 matches, having a game in hand at home against Asante Kotoko come Sunday to officially end their first round matches.
