Former Ghana Black Stars defender, Samuel Inkoom has revealed his football life time and the challenges he has faced as professional footballer.
Inkoom, who was part of Ghana’s squad for the World Cup 2010 in South Africa is widely regarded as one of the best right backs to ever played the Ghana senior national team, the Black Stars.
The ex-Hasaacas and Asante Kotoko player left Ghana in 2009 to join FC Basel in Switzerland where he began his European football journey.
He played for eleven different clubs after leaving the shores of Ghana including Boavista in Portugal.
The 2009 U-20 World Cup winner made 44 appearances scoring 1 goal for the Ghana national team between 2008 and 2014.
“Issues concerning traveling are not easy. I have played in a different countries and then the last club I played before leaving Ghana which is Asante Kotoko. You know that we support the team. The feeling is different when you are supporting and playing so imagine playing for a club you love…it brings everything about you and the fans; and you know how the fans expect more from the players. After leaving the Porcupines I went to Switzerland and everybody saw what happened there. I can’t mention all and it will take time if I try to mention. I think for me so far so good”, Inkoom told ghanasportspage.com
“If I say there’s nothing in this world then I am not telling the truth. I always try to speak the truth. The truth motivates the young ones coming as well. Not all the teams you will go and take it easy. Sometimes you have to even fight for positions. You know you will meet some coaches and they will not like you, some of them will like you so I experienced a lot but all will depend on you as a player; how you work, how you be as a professional player in terms of everything.
In Ukraine I faced a lot of situations. I was not okay but in the end I fought to get back on track. That is where I was facing a lot of challenges.
“I enjoyed in Switzerland. When I was in FC Basel….you know because it was every player’s dream to play Champions and Europa League so I was getting the privilege to play Champions League and Europa League as well.
“I was so happy with myself like playing football”, he narrated.
The 32-year old is currently without a club after leaving Georgian side, FC Torpedo Kutaisi earlier this year.
