Captain of Nigeria senior men’s national team the Super Eagles, Ahmed Musah has made the intentions of his side clear, saying they are ready to battle Ghana out for the ticket to Qatar 2022 World Cup when the two West African rivals face each other in the last playoffs next month.
Ghana will host Nigeria on Thursday March 24 for the first leg at the Cape Coast sports stadium in the central region of Ghana, while the return leg comes off in three days later at the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
At a virtual meeting between Youth and Sports Minister, Sunday Dare, chieftains of the Nigeria Football Federation and players of the Super Eagles together with technical team members of the team on Tuesday night, the players and coaches assured the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) and Nigerians at large of their doubtless commitment to qualify the country to the 22nd edition of the FIFA World Cup finals to staged in Qatar between November and December this year.
Captain of Super Eagles, Ahmed Musa eulogized the world cup and revealed the desire of most of the Super Eagles stars to have a feel of the biggest football tournament in history.
“The FIFA World Cup is the biggest football tournament in the world, and every player wants to feature there. A good number of the players in the team now have not been there, and the few of us that have been there want to experience it again”, Musa told the officials at the meeting on Tuesday night, as reported by the NFF.
The 29-year old Fatih Karagümrük S.K winger, Musa, admitted that their opponent for the World Cup playoffs, Ghana, are a strong side, but he and his teammates are well determined to storm Ghana to get a good result and return home to complete the job. He made a passionate appeal to the NFF to help fill the stadium with more spectators in the return leg to ginger them on.
“We just want the NFF to help us get enough fans into the Abuja Stadium for the second leg. We will go to Ghana and dig our feet and ensure we get a result. We must admit that Ghana also want to qualify and they have a strong team. The return leg will be crucial and we are ready for the battle, but we want our fans to be in there cheering us on”, Musa added.
