It was a great afternoon for the football lovers across the globe especially but not limited to Accra Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko fans as the two greatest clubs in Ghana football battle it out for a scintillating game at the Accra sports stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The much talked about Super Clash sold out the one of the best of football games to soccer fans across the globe, as the Phobians and the Porcupine Warriors checked each other to a 0-0 stalemate in the Ghana Premier League match week 7 outstanding game.
Hearts of had a flying start to the game and came so close to finding the net under two minutes into the game, but Awako’s effort was tipped off the cross bar by Asante Kotoko goalkeeper, Ibrahim Danlad. The visitors were yet settling into the game when the home side launched yet another attack after Sulley Muntari networked nicely with Awako in the box of Asante Kotoko, but Danlad quickly came off his line to the rescue of the Porcupine Warriors.
Asante Kotoko came close to finding the net in the 11th minute when Mudasiru lobbed the ball to Mfegue inside the box, but the Cameroonian striker’s beautiful overhead kick was tipped off the bar by Hearts of Oak’s goalkeeper Richard Atta for a corner.
The action was an end to end one with less shots on target from both sides as the clock ticked towards the end of the first half. In the last 5 minutes of the first half, both sides taught they deserved a penalty after Richmond Lamptey and Daniel Afriyie Barnieh were both went down in the box, but referee Rastum Gameli Senorgbe disagreed. It finished goalless at half time.
Back from recess, Asante Kotoko had a great start and came close to finding the net but Frank Etouga Mbella’s header from Asmah’s cross went wayward. The visitors bossed the game for about 5 minutes before the home side settled with a quick exchange. The defending champions of the league, Hearts of Oak opened fire on their opponents, winning three corner continuously in the 76th minute but Hearts of Oak had both efforts gone wasted.
It was a nervy contest between the two sides but they failed to find the back of the net. The game ended 0-0 and Asante Kotoko returns to Kumasi with a point, giving them a 7-point lead on the league log as the first round of the league officially come to an end.
Hearts of Oak’s new signing, Dennis Nkrumah Korsah was adjudged the Man of the Match.
