The Premier League (GPL) Match Day 19 fixtures of Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak have been rescheduled to make way for the Ghana Annual Republic Day Cup (President’s Cup), the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has confirmed.
The President’s Cup is an annual ceremonial cup match that is usually played as a one-off game in honour of the sitting president of the Republic, and that of the year 2022 would be played in honour of H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo President of the Republic of Ghana on Friday, March 4, 2022 at the Accra Sports stadium.
The decision to play the game between the two biggest football clubs of the land was announced on Tuesday by the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), and the GFA has now sanctioned the call, resulting in the rescheduling of the GPL fixture.
In a statement by the FA on Wednesday, it stated, that the “Premier League game between Bechem United FC and Asante Kotoko SC has been rescheduled to Tuesday, March 8, while the game between Accra Hearts of Oak SC and Real Tamale United FC has been moved to Wednesday, March 9, 2022”.
However, “All stakeholders are to note that all other matches slated for Match Day 19 in the Ghana Premier League will go on as scheduled”, the FA stated.
