Chairman of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), Kudjoe Fianoo has confirmed that the association is planning to feature EPL giants, Tottenham Hotspurs in Ghana’s President Cup in the upcoming years to honor the president of the land before his exit in 2025.
President Akufo-Addo is a known supporter of the England-based team Spurs.
In 2019, President Nana Akuffo-Addo was in Madrid to support the Spurs in the Champions League final against Liverpool FC that ended in tears for his side.
After three years, the GHALCA has announced to feature Hearts and Kotoko in the upcoming President Cup to be staged at the Accra Sports Stadium on March 4th, 2022 but the association has made up their mind to make history, involving Tottenham Hotspurs in the President Cup in the upcoming years.
“There are plans to honor the president with the clubs he supports locally and internationally in the next edition of the President cup.
“This is the plan we have for the president cup but we are involving Kotoko and Hearts this year because that plan has not been concluded.
“We have involved clubs outside Ghana in the past and per what we are looking at, the president’s tenure expires in 2024 and we are aware he supports Tottenham Hotspurs so after this year we are looking at engaging authorities in bringing Tottenham Hotspurs to Ghana to play against the club the president supports in Ghana.” He told Precise FM.
Kumasi Asante Kotoko won the last edition of the cup after beating their bitterest rivals by a 2-1 scoreline in Accra.
