Misfiring Accra Hearts of Oak once again failed to pick all three points in their league match against Legon Cities on Saturday afternoon, and coach Samuel Boadu is left a worried person, describing the results as “a painful” one.
Hearts of Oak have not won a league match since January 30, when they beat King Faisal by 1-0 at the Accra sports stadium. Coach Samuel Boadu’s side have since lost by a lone goal to city rivals Accra Great Olympics and drawn blank on the road against RTU and at home against bitterest rivals, Asante Kotoko.
Coming from the one week after the first round of the league, one might expect that the Phobians would have done their home works well, and have weak points strengthened to begin the second round on high note against a mid table side Legon Cities, but it wasn’t meant to be after coach Maxwell Konadu’s side held them to a 1-1 draw at the El-Wak stadium in the match week 18 encounter of the Ghana Premier League. Hearts of Oak took the lead in the game through Isaac Mensah, who headed home a Sulley Muntari’s left footed curled corner kick, but failed to hold on to the lead till the last whistle Osmand Amadu equalised for Legon Cities after 90 minutes during added time.
Speaking to StarTimes media after the game, Boadu bemoaned his players’ failure to remain alert till the last whistle, but hoped they go back to correct their wrongs.
“It’s a very painful draw because we thought we were done with it, just a few minutes [to go]”, Boadu said after the match. “Always they [the players of Hearts of Oak] need to stay composed and have mental toughness. That costed us a lot”, he bemoaned.
Unlike last season, Hearts of oak have amassed only 2 points from Legon Cities this seaon as against the 4 points they got out of a possible 6, and Boadu has admitted that this is not what the club wants, but can only go back to the drawing board to correct their mistakes.
“It’s very bad. Honestly this is not what we want but it’s football. You always have to remain focused and always concentrate on the ending part of the game. If you lose little concentration you would be punished; that is what happened to us, but going forward we believe that it’s a little mistake but it’s elementary mistake and we have to go home and correct”, he concluded.
