Title holders of the Ghana Premier League, Accra Hearts of Oak failed to thrash their city rivals Legon Cities on matchday 18 of the Ghana Premier League after scoring an early lead at the El-Wak Sports Stadium.
Hearts of Oak broke the parity at the 11th minute through a conner kick converted by Isaac Mensah.
The corner kick was taken by Sulley and Isaac Mensah rightly connected to give Hearts the lead.
With the scintillating performance, Hearts of Oak came close to double the tally at the 21st minute but Barnieh couldn’t turns things around but narrowly missed the target by inches.
During the 38 minute, Legon Cities goalkeeper, William Essu scored full marks with a perfect save to deny Isaac Mensah from getting brace.
Legon Cities failed to equal the parity in the first half as referee Ghansah blown his whistle to end the first 45.
After recess, the visitors Hearts mounted pressure in search of another goal but Maxwell Konadu’s side were solid at the defense.
At the 51st minute, the goalscorrer Isaac Mensah was given a yellow for a foul on a Legon Cities player.
Legon Cities were awarded a free-kick but they wasted the chance to equalize.
Samuel Boadu made his first substitute for Muntari making his way off for Ansah Botwe at the 63rd minute.
Kofi Kordzi later came in for Mensah but he couldn’t find his scoring boot to extend the lead.
The game became tight affair for both sides but Hearts of Oak failed to claim a 1-0 triumph as Osman Amadu scored a last minute goal to prevent the Phobians from snatching an away victory.
The 1-1 draw leaves the Rainbows at the 7th position with 26 points. Legon Cities at the 11th position with 22 points.
Hearts of Oak will tackle WAFA at home on week 19 after the President Cup with Asante Kotoko whiles Legon Cities will visit RTU in Tamale.
