Former Black Stars of Ghana midfielder, Derek Boateng has expressed his feelings following Asamoah Gyan’s comment on Majeed Ashimeru’s exclusion from the Black Stars ahead of the game against Nigeria.
The former Fullham says he wouldn’t have retracted the comment ‘Baby Jet’ made if he was to be the ex-Ghanaian star.
After waiting for a long time, the GFA announced the squad list for Nigeria duel but the all-time top scorer of the Black Stars was disappointed due to Anderlecht midfielder Majeed Ashimeru’s exclusion.
Gyan took to his Twitter page and voiced out on the continuous absence of the midfielder after missing out on the squad to face the Super Eagles.
Gyan later deleted the comment but it had already gone viral, and Boateng insists he shouldn’t have deleted the comment.
“If I were to be Gyan, I will not take it back because that’s the truth. Is about time that people like him should start talking about the players that they invite because that player (Majeed Ashimeru) is a great player. He is a player who is supposed to be in the squad right now so me my myself I don’t know why he is not there. I’ve been watching this boy playing. He has been playing regularly and not just playing a team. He is playing one of the best teams in Europe, Anderlecht and Yaw Preko was there before, Odartey Lamptey was there.
“Anderlecht is not a small club. A player who is playing regularly every week not in in the squad, come on what are we doing. So I think is about time Asamoah will say something and am really really happy he came out but for him to take it back…no. That’s the truth and you know in Ghana when you say the truth people don’t like you but he need to talk. Is about time all the old players should start voicing out because we want our football to go well.” Boateng commented on GTV Sports Plus.
Ghana will take on Nigeria in the first leg of the World Cup qualifier play-offs this evening at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium at exactly 19:30GMT before the the return leg on Tuesday in Abuja.
