The President of the Republic, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has placed a telephone call to interim Black Stars coach Otto Addo and the Black Stars in Nigeria, few minutes after the former Ghana international guided the team to secure qualification to the 2022 FIFA World Cup finals in Qatar.

The Black Stars became the first of the five African countries to qualify for the mundial after securing a 1-1 draw against their fellow West African counterparts Nigeria on Tuesday in Abuja, following a goalless draw between the two sides last Friday in Kumasi, Ghana.

The President, who is celebrating his 78th birthday today, Tuesday, March 29, is heard in a video which has since been released by the FA, speaking over the telephone to the Black Stars interim manager, congratulating him and the team. He joked that Otto Addo, who is bound to return to his substantive coaching job at Dortmund in Germany, would be ”kidnapped” when he arrives in Ghana so he sticks to the Black Stars.

Watch the video of the president speaking to Otto Addo and the Black Stars below:

Thank you Mr President @NAkufoAddo 👏

We hope we gave you the best birthday present today 🎁 #WCQ2022 | #BringBackTheLove | #GoBlackStarsGo | #GoGhana pic.twitter.com/nWRgiFS980
