The Teranga Lions of Senegal will welcome the Pharaohs of Egypt in the ongoing FIFA World Cup playoffs on Tuesday, 29th March 2022.
The two finalists of the recent TotalEnergies 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, Egypt and Senegal will clash again today Tuesday, 29th March 2022 for one of the five tickets reserved for Africa for the 2022 World Cup.
The Lions of Teranga head into the game seeking to overturn their deficit after falling to a slender 1-0 defeat when the sides went head to head in Cairo last Friday.
Senegal suffered a dent in their bid for a plane in the 2022 FIFA World Cup as they fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat against Egypt in Friday’s playoff first leg.
Liverpool star Mohamed Salah was at the heart of the action once again as his shot deflected in off Saliou Ciss in the opening four minutes which was enough to separate the sides.
This followed an unbeaten run in the qualifying group stages, where they claimed five wins and one draw to finish top of Group H with an eight-point cushion over Togo.
Prior to Friday’s defeat Aliou Cisse’s, men were also unbeaten in 13 straight games across all competitions, a run which saw them clinch their first ever Africa Cup of Nations title at the expense of Egypt back in January.
However, Senegal will feel confident of overturning their one-goal deficit on Tuesday as they return home where they last suffered defeat back in July 2019, claiming seven wins and one draw in eight games since then.
Egypt, on the other hand, who are currently 34th in the latest FIFA World Rankings, are now one step from securing their fourth World Cup appearance and Algeria’s current record.
Friday’s victory came off the back of suffering a gruesome defeat at the hands of Senegal when the sides locked horns for the continental crown in January’s AFCON final.
“The Pharaohs”, of Egypt have enjoyed an unbeaten run in their race for a place in the World Cup after winning four and claiming two draws to collect 14 points and finish top of Group F of the qualifiers.
Carlos Queiroz’s side head into Tuesday’s game without a win in any of their last three away games against the Lions of Teranga and will be looking to end this dry spell and complete their revenge for their AFCON final loss.
The 50,000 capacity stadium (STADE ME ABDOULAYE WADE) will host The Pharaohs of Eygpt today at 17:00GMT.
The make-or-break encounter will take place today, Tuesday March 29 at the Abdoulaye Wade stadium in Diamniadio (40 km from Dakar) which was inaugurated on February 22, 2022.
With a capacity of 50,000 seats, 49,000 people are expected to fill the stadium today.
