The head coach of Accra Hearts of Oak, Samuel Boadu has explained why the team’s all time top scorer for this season, Kofi Kordzi was substituted during their matchday 22 away game against Berekum Chelsea.
The striker climbed off the bench to score an equalizer against Elmina Sharks on Sunday in a round of 16 clash of the MTN FA Cup which opened the way for the Rainbows to brush-off the lads through penalty shootout and advance into the last eight.
Going into this game, Samuel Boadu handed a starting role to the knack striker in aid to lead the team for victory but Kordzi couldn’t unleash his powerful strike on the hosts in Berekum.
Despite being the top scorer of the Ghana Premier League giants, the player struggled for starting lineup before Chelsea tie on Wednesday.
The gaffer of the title holders tried to bring in James Sewornu, a fresh limbs to replace the player for a new style of play, yet they ended the game in a goalless draw.
Explaining why the strong striker was substituted at the 68th minute, Boadu claimed Kordzi did well but he had more defenders around him.
Speaking in a post match conference, the tactician clarified;
“Kofi’s substitution has nothing to do with his performance. He was good but he had more defenders on him that’s why he was substituted to bring in fresh limbs.” He ended.
Kordzi went into the game with a perfect record following his brace against same opponents in Accra during a matchday 10 clash. Chelsea are yet to concede a defeat after that 2-0 result in the Ghanaian top-flight league.
