Accra Hearts of Oak have climb to the top four position on the league log of the ongoing 2021/2022 premier league season after defeating Medeama Sporting Club by 1-0 at the Accra sports stadium on Saturday afternoon.
It was fixture of the match week 23 of the ongoing premier league campaign, and the current league champions have successfully revenged their 1-0 defeat to Medeama during the first round of the campaign at the Tarkwa Akoon Park.
Medeama SC, the visitors held the Phobians to a goalless draw in the first half as both sides pressed harder for the opener which never came.
In the second half,Medeama came knocking with a nicely worked out counter attack which looked dangerous for the home side, but centre back Mohammed Alhassan saved the situation to keep the scoreline blank. The exchanges yielded no goals, but the game wasn’t devoid of drama as Hearts of Oak head coach Samuel Boadu was shown the yellow card for a misconduct.
Accra Hearts of Oak kept pressing goal until they finally had their breakthrough in the 56th minute when Ushau Abu sent a measured pass to Daniel Afriyie Barnieh on the left side of attack, who in turn curled into the the box a brilliant cross which was headed home by Isaac Mensah for what eventually become the winner and the only goal in the match.
The win means Hearts of Oak have now moved from 6th to 4th position on the league log with 36 points, same as Accra Great Olympics who lie 7th now on the league log. Olympics will travel to the Nana Fosu Gyeaobour Park to face Bechem United on Monday, and failure to secure at least a point from that match will mean Hearts of Oak will seal the 4th position after week 23 matches.
