Reports gathered on ghanasportspage.com have disclosed that former Deportivo Alavez midfielder, Mubarak Wakaso is likely to sign a deal with either Asante Kotoko or Hearts of Oak to relaunch his form ahead of the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
The 31-year-old Black Stars midfielder has been out from football since November due to injury. Despite the injury, the ex-Espanyol player was named among Ghana’s squad for the recent AFCON in Cameroon but failed to feature in any of the three games as he failed to recover fully.
During the AFCON, it was revealed that Valencia was very much interested in snatching Wakaso during the January transfer window to beef up their squad for the second half of the season but the Ghana star could not seal the deal because of injury problems.
Valencia manager Jose Bordalás is believed to have worked with Wakaso and the club started engaging the player’s representatives over a possible return to the Spanish top-flight.
However, they declined after realizing the midfielder was carrying a serious injury, according to Spanish media. Instead, they signed young midfielder Illaix Moriba on loan from RB Leipzig.
The Shenzhen player hasn’t played competitive football since 14 November 2021 when he helped Ghana beat South Africa to secure a place in the final qualifying round of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
His contract with the Chinese-based club will expire in December 2024.
Wakaso is currently under treatment-seeking recovery to bounce back into the game after four months.
